Bright skirts!

Even though winter is nipping at our heels, my daughter & I are both going to look warm & bright in our new skirts. I used to sew clothes a lot...but lost interest & now the sewing machine is pretty much just for patchwork. Fabrics for dressmaking became harder to get, it was easier to buy ready-made...time was precious...you may be the same. So today I spent some time constructing these two skirts...not quite finished, but I can see the chequered flag waving in the distance. A couple of posts ago I had the pattern for this skirt which I picked up at a quilt show... a few people asked about the designer. It is by an Australian designer, Polli's Folli aka Kim Pollington & it has been quite easy to construct, & sits quite nicely...A line panel...flattering to most of us. I only have an email address for her, not a website or a blog.
The second skirt is from an Anna Maria Horner pattern...Study Hall skirt. It has been really easy & looks great with the contrast box pleats...DD is most excited about it!
Do you do much dressmaking anymore?

No, I don't do much dressmaking. I got sick of doing lots of unpicking and fiddling to make things fit only to find once finished that I didn't like it or it didn't suit me. Much easier to go to a shop and try before you buy. Having said that, I recently made my bright PJ pants which I am very happy with and I have bought some chocolate woollen flannel to make a skirt. One thing I did enjoy making was woollen skirts and have a few packed away in boxes because I loved them so much. I am yet to decide on a design and will have a go at drafting a pattern (delve deep into the dark memory recesses for that one - or go and ask Mum for help). I just can't come at paying $25 for a skirt pattern.

Sadly I'm not much of a dressmaker. My Mother is one of those Superwomen who is amazingly good at everything and she made all our clothes until we reached the horrible teenage years. We, my sister and I, would spend hours with Mum at West End Fabrics in the city as she poured over patterns and selected fabrics. Needless to say we loathed the whole process. My sister still doesn't sew! I've not inherited my mother's talent, but I do have a fabric addiction. I love the fabrics you've chosen for your skirts. Kim :)

My daughter, who claims to be frightened of rolls of fabric and refuses to shop with me, has just popped her head over my shoulder. Her words were: "what a pretty blog. those skirts are very me." I wonder if I can entice her to the sewing machine to make skirts? We may need Nana's help. :) Kim

no more dressmaking for the same exact reasons you state though I was able to pick up a cute summer dress pattern and a quilted jacket pattern.I do need to look into that summer dress since it is almost upon us.

Great looking fabrics!
I haven't sewn a garment in more years than I care to remember... also, I find it hard to find stores that carry fabrics for garments these days - patchwork fabrics on the other hand, I can find ;-)

Oh I love these patterns...
Love the bright colours too...
But I do know that if I made one I would stick to my favorite burgundy or black...
