Papers, plums and a touch of the glums!

Hand stitching...the perfect thing to do when your mind is just not fully on the "job" of stitching.
Quite frankly the concentration span is poor and I have been in an uncharacteristic grump...don't put me near a rotary cutter!!! Obviously the house sale is still up in the air...still having people come through until the offer can become unconditional...at least we are fortunate to have lots of interest.
So not a lot of stitching happening...lots I would like to do...so have been working on sewing rows of octagons together...and was wondering...am I doing this the hard way as it takes forever to add a row and it is seriously boring (see the head is not quite as peppy as usual)???? Any tips???
It will look nice though I think!
Played with the purples for my soul searching top...purple is a tough colour...there are plums, mauves, pinks and knock-your-eyes-out-child-of-the-seventies PURPLE...fun to see what I had and even more fun trying to put it together without giving myself the glums (never been a lilac sort of girl) or a headache...some of those purples were super rich and BRIGHT!
Do you like purple?

Nope...not so big on purple either, and having people through my house all the time would make me seriously grumpy! Loving the octagons.

Sorry to hear you are in a bit of a slump - it is hard when you feel like things happening in your life are out of your control! For me, working with purple would have sent me into a tailspin as I hate the color. Lol. Sending you many good thoughts and wishes that things firm up for you house sale soon.

Sorry you are having an off time. I do love purples and lavender....I like the piece you put together. Oh and I know you will like the White Pomegranate tea.

I'm not big on purples either but I do love the lavender and lilac shades - your octagons are going to look amazing... keep plugging away... I like an audio book to keep me entertained when doing less exciting stitching... holding thumbs for the house sale...

I love your octagons, and this is how I get into trouble because I want to head right to the sewing room and start cutting some. Just love that quilt. I would be pretty cranky if I had to constantly keep things "picked up" in case someone came to look at the house. Hope things move along for you quickly. And...purple is the color I have the least of in my stash.

Do,I like purple? Do I what! fav Colour, I'd be in a happy place sewing that block. Look if you are in purple overload, I can help, just sent the purples on over to me!

Cheers

The hexies look fabulous. It seems your innovation and style hasnt been hampered by a non sold house.

Selling property is stressful.Im sure it'll all turn out OK.

I love purple, particularly the deep purple you get in flowers and my stash reflects it! I need orange scraps at present, so happy to swap if you need more purple!
Life will be much sunnier when you can say NO MORE open house, fingers crossed it happens this week.

Feel for you with the people and the house selling. Hopefully it will all be over soon. Purple - love some shades, hate others - like your block though.

Your octogen quilt is looking gorgeous, I must admit it is a little mindless seeing the rows together but perfect for the way you are feeling. Just keep pushing on and before you know it voila you have a completed quilt top.
Fingers crossed or your house sale. Not sure about purples, as you say there are purples and there are pedestrian purples

I hope the house sale happens quickly, then it might help to drag you out of the grump you are in Alison. The octagons look great, but it sure does look like a "take your time" type of project. Purple is an acquired taste for me & like you, there are some I like & some that give a headspin. Hang in There, Lovely Lady...

I have great empathy for the grumps that come from trying to keep the house clean when it's for sale, and then not getting any decent offers. Believe me, I know! Quilting is great therapy, and should relax and make the world a better place. Hopefully next week will be better :)

Oh purples, they are moody colours and you should be avoiding them at the moment, to much else going on to give you grief ! My friend has used my line about purples, there are a few that are ok mixes , with lots of other colours, but oh the pedestrian and suburban purples ....... NO !
I think I remember you saying you were doing the octagons over paper, no need, just hand piece them, I joined the vertical lines between each octagon then sewed in the squares and then connected the rows by sewing the next row on to the previous line of squares, does that make sense. I thought it came together fairly quickly. Have a brandy Cardy !

I love purple, but I really don't like sewing with it, or wearing it for that matter. Hmm So why do I like purple? Off to navel gaze now.
Sorry to hear you are feeling glum, I can sympathise/empathise with you totally as going through the same crap here. Fingers crossed for you that the sale goes unconditional asap.

Anita said...

oh you poor thing, I can hear the grumps in your "voice" LOL
I can't beleive those people are still stuffing you around with the sale, hopefully someone else will come along and wipe them out of contention!!
BTW...love the octagons!

Janet said...

I think you have a good excuse for the grumps. I hope you get something finalised soon. The octagons are looking mighty fine. There's no reason you couldn't sew them together as say a three by three block unit.

Nope. I don't like purple. I do understand the glums though, hope you are feeling better soon!

Oh dear! It's been so long! Life just seems to be zooming by! I read you about the lack of concentration. Stitching is always good for the soul! Happy B day to your Mum! Looks like your new home is moving along. Thanks for sharing! Hugs!

LOVE those octagons - don't be down. Just think how lucky you are to be able to play with all that great fabric. This is going to be lovely.

Purple is on of my favourites - because it does come in all those shades and goes easily with many other colours. Your block looks good.
Love those octagons - admire your patience with all the little pieces and can imagine it would be puzzling for a head with altogether too many things happening already.
Hope you can relax and enjoy some sewing soon.
