The acceptance of limitations...

I am feeling quite philosophical at present...
I have bleated on about life and it's busy-ness for faaaar too long (sorry about that!), so I have decided that to regain control I need to prioritise demands so that life is not a blur anymore! This past weekend there were no visitors, no grand plans and nothing super urgent that had to be done. There were things that would be nice to achieve, but it wasn't an issue if they weren't. So, I did groceries...washed sheets and towels...walked the dog (twice)...cleaned bathrooms...swept paths...caught up with friends, and then did some sewing prep!
Yay!
Funnily, I had an email from someone wondering what sewing was going on here. Rude?
Well, now I can show...
scarf progression (despite appearances my clever cat has NOT learnt to sew)...
gorgeous felts...
fun threads...
fabric from MO cut and waiting to become a sewing folder...
someone's belated birthday present to match her new kitchen...
That does feel better!
So, the new plan is to not HAVE to do everything...create opportunity for quiet time...and enjoy it!
Relax and enjoy the sewing time I make!
How do you manage busy lives and still create?

Can i start by saying how lucky your cat is to have such a nice seat! I do like the look of your scarf too. As for fitting in sewing time......it's like sleep or food......if I don't have at least a little every day things go pear shaped. I think that's why I like hand work, it's easy to squeeze in a few stitches here and there. Glad to hear things are leveling out for you.

This post hits the spot for me as I've been thinking along these lines lately as well and have come to the same conclusion. Enjoy your me time and slowing down the pace to enjoy being in the here and now :) Barb.

I too am trying to just enjoy my sewing more with the attitude of working on what I want to do more than what I have to do. Life is just too full of "have to".

Your scarf looks lovely, very bright, very you ....
Wow you struck a cord here

I find it hard juggling everything, there are times when I don t sew for days, then others when I get a few hours in. I used to feel really sad seeing other people just make quit after quilt or project after project. When sometimes it can take me months to get a stitchery done. But now I try to just accept that I can only get done what I can get done....

I find sleeping is way over-rated.
:o)

I like your cat's attitude (bask in other folks' creativity)

Tho your new mantra sounds like a winner...more adult.

Well I don't have a social life and sew at the same time! because by the time I wash, cook, clean and shop on the non paid work days there is only time for sewing OR socialising, which is why l like social quilting get togethers! and I don't work full time, so I understand your frustration. It's another reason I also took up hand work. But that is counter productive when you have five large quilts on the go!

O.M.G. I love that scarf!

I carry on about being busy all the time - too busy to do the things I love and I feel the pressure to get certain things done before I play too. I really need to stop doing that to myself.

Fabulous scarf. I have pondered life before blogging. I got more done! I often wonder if sewing has become a competitive sport. Quilt blogging is a wonderful community that I enjoy so I hope that I really just do what makes me happy. :o)

I do what I can - when I can, and try not to beat myself up if plans go awry and I don't achieve what I think I should have achieved (if that makes sense) some days getting the laundry done, the floors cleaned, groceries purchase, meals cooked and the dog walked is THE most satisfying feeling in the world and getting a little stitching done on top of that is fabulous.....I have learned to work at my own pace and to appreciate the work of others without feeling like I should be doing more - and I also try not to be distracted by all the new projects, BOMs,fabrics, patterns etc etc out there in the blogasphere....ater all there are only 24 hours in a day :) I still have serious chair envy though - can't seem to get over that one :)

love your post, life here has taken over, and stitching for me is just a dream, but I will get there! Sometimes you have to get all the other things done, before you can take time out for sewing.

Hit the nail on the head Alison - do what we can, when we can and enjoyment is the most important. Lorraine is right though - serious chair envy.

It's been six days since my last stitch and I'm feeling a little edgy. You NEED to sew to maintain your serenity. Glad to see you're getting back into it. It's like exercise. your're either in the habit of doing it, or you're not.

It's NICE to have some ME time... and ME alone time too without interruption. Regenerates the soul!

I am liking the looks of your scarf there :) Sewing of some sort every day is like eating and breathing for me, if I don't take some time out for me and do it I can question myself and I feel like my world starts spinning out of control. I guess my sewing keeps me grounded. I have also learnt that it is OK to say NO and not do everything that everyone wants from you. hugs

Well, Alison, I don't clean! Ha! Not that I shouldn't but just that I choose not to...until it gets too much for me to stand. I used to have a spotless house...but I, too, have prioritized. Anyway...I love to see your photos of friends and travels!

If only there was more time in a day... You've made the best decision to relax and enjoy the sewing time you have. Your scarf is looking fabulous. I have a little roll up of felts too, waiting for the right day...

I see we have a very similar taste in quilting. I see a quilt from MO on the bed in your blog, which is the same as one I have to sew together any day now =. LOL!Love the scarf!
