Life's varied fortunes

Time is passing quickly by...frightening & sad natural disasters both here and abroad show the fragility of our lives and the importance of appreciating who we have in our lives...families, friends & even the kindness of strangers. We have been fortunate & have not been personally affected by these tragedies, but feel a great sadness for those who are suffering at this time.
We are blessed to have our children return home after holidays both here and abroad with happy tales and lots of pictures. It is wonderful to see them stepping out and enjoying their lives. DD had a wonderful time in Rome & Paris and it has been fascinating hearing stories of friendly Italians & walks down cobblestone streets. Their showband performed at several venues & was even acknowledged by the Pope.
Some stitching has happened here today...the HST's are nearly all done for this month's Le Petite...just the border HST's still to do. Thankyou to everyone who gave me their tips...I have settled on lines marked on squares with the Hera marker and sewn a 1/4" on each side...it seems to have worked well. Lots of trimming of the blocks...lots of scrappy bits. They are a bit of work but do look really good.
One quick lesson I learnt this week...When you are awake at 0430hrs it is not a good idea to cut out a quilt top just because it is quiet! A couple of wrong cuts has led to the makings of several skinny tablerunners or coin quilts...OOPS!

It has been a mixed week, hasn't it? I've been feeling a bit guilty even, just because my life has been free of all the devastation that has been happening elsewhere...and I'm so proud of the Aussie spirit :)
Can't wait to see your Petite for this month...and I sooooooo need to see your funky stitch-a-long fabrics! Please?

I will remember that hint about 4:30 am. Sometimes I am up then, but never have I contemplated cutting a quilt out. This will keep me from doing that. However, I must say that I love your skinny table runner!!

I'm so glad you and your family are OK. We have been reading about the flooding in Australia, and are so saddened about the vast devastation.

I have a don't cut after dark rule for the same reason: A day of work fuzzes the brain too much for accuracy.

Your table runner is very nice...what mistake? Glad you and your family are safe...keeping all Aussies in my thoughts.
Have a nice weekend...looking forward to seeing the quilt finished.

I missed my blogs last week and I see you were looking for suggestions for hst's.... Lemme tell you, if you have to make a lot and want to do them quick, there is a program out there called TRIANGULATIONS and it's paper piecing. You can get 16-20 on 1 sheet if you want to make that many from one fabric. Email me privately if you'd like me to send you the program....

(I did some and have them on my blog...talk about a time saver!)

Alison, Your words well put. I could not begin to imagine what it must be like for our fellow Aussies going through such devistation.
Your tip for 4.30 quilt cutting is a good one thanks

I have stitched at 4.30am but never cut; will bear in mind what you have said! LOL, nice to have some 'bonus' table runners!

It's been a terribly tough week in your part of the world, and many others too around the globe.

Re: Your HST's - they look great, I've just started on some too for Vignette and I really don't like them! Have been pointed in the same direction as you - sew on either side of the line and get two done at once - looking forward to trying it out. Yours look great and so does your 'mistake' table runner - lovely!

Glad that the kids had great holidays and that Miss E really enjoyed her time overseas! What does HST stand for? They look great!! Ohh..... 4.30 isn't a good time to do anything that is important! ;) So you've added another project to the list by default?! Hope it all works out!

It has been awful watching the flood disaster unfold on the tv and I can't even begin to imagine what it must be like for those affected. However, I am proud to be an Australian, watching the volunteer army work their magic over the weekend.

Great tip about the 4.30am cutting!

The flooding has been all over the news here. It is so sad, but the Aussie spirit and the way everybody has banded together has been remarkable to watch. My thoughts and prayers are with those affected.

Your quilty WIPs are gorgeous--even with the cutting mishap! LOL
