Quiet Evenings

Blackbird Designs- Summer Basket
30ct 2over2 Gentle Arts & WDW
With little time spent in my sewing room of late, I have enjoyed stitching in the family room & chatting of an evening. I am enjoying some cross stitch, starting some new & finishing that Blackbird Designs sampler that has been hanging around. It is lovely to have it finished & now a visit to the framer will be in order.
I have been stitching away on this pear..
With Thy Needle & Thread- Partridge in a Pear Tree
32 ct Flax 1 over 2, DMC threads
And the Jenny Bean Halloween Sampler from Shakespeares Peddlar arrived in the mail. It will be stitched on 40ct Flax with these gorgeous Sampler Threads. Several people have completed it in blogland, and I just adore it's quirkiness. I will add a label that I stitched it in my 50th year...I suppose it will be a half century sampler as opposed to all those birth samplers we stitch! I sometimes wonder why I am attracted to these fine linens...my glasses are going to be Magoo-like before too much longer & I spend hours day dreaming about magnifiers. My optometrist gets a big smile every time I walk in!
The kindness of your comments on my previous post was so supportive. We have had a challenging few weeks here, hopefully life will soon settle a bit.

I recently picked up cross stitching again. I started a project on 32 ct flax linen using 2 over 2...all I can say is that I must be blind!! I had to get a magnifying glass out to stitch on this, and still had trouble seeing it! I can't imagine stitching on 40 ct linen!!!!!! You're my hero!

Wow, that is heavy duty stitching & so beautiful. I love cross stitch but I am so slow at it & I have never stitched on linen. That's real heirloom craftmenship! Tracee xx

I haven't the faintest about 40 ct Flax, but I sympathize about the eyes. My eye doctor has a big smile for me too.

You do beautiful work, not sure that I have the patience for crossstitch!

I love the idea of a half century sampler...I won't be 50 for a few years yet but should probably start now to finish by then...

Woohoo! Congratulations on the finish! I like your WIP, too. You'll have fun with Jenny Bean--and I love your idea for making it your 50th birthday sampler!

I love having hand work to do because our family enjoys watching TV together at night. I look a sight with my magnifying glasses perched on the end of my nose and the glasses that I need to see the TV set up against my face and the bright light over top of me, so I can see the holes on my linen, but it gets the job done and I love every second of it. I need to go to the eye doctor again--I think I need bifocals in addition to everything else! LOL

Stitching is both pleasureable and regenerative, your work is lovely and must give you as much pleasure as we do who share the piece.
