Cross stitch progress

Still steadily working away on Jenny Beans Halloween...I am loving the quirkiness of this one...but I always dawdle when I am doing blocks of color...hence the slow progress on the house! I am planning on adding some different wording, so will reveal when it is done.
A question for you cross stitchers out there...where do you start a design? Borders or centre?

Looking good! No idea about where to start (many thousand years since I've done crossstitch) but I'll be interested in the answers!

i always start top, left corner or top middle, depending on the design. BUT you must always check that the fabric is big enough, plus 3 inches extra all the way round design . and sometimes you may stitch the design on a different count fabric to the one used in the pattern!

i always feel that starting in the centre is like being in the middle of no mans land !

Gosh...so long since I actually started a cross-stitch. Ummmm....I think I start in the middle. You're doing great on yours so far :)

Wonderful progress! I always start my stitching in the top left corner. Before I started doing a lot of samplers, I would always do a middle of the fabric & chart start. Now it's always the top left.

I mostly always start in the middle. At least that way (if it's a kit) I know it is exactly 'right' and in the middle of the fabric!! Don't want to do a whole cross stitch and get to an edge and realise I don't have enough!!

Beautiful colours. I always started in the middle, counted, counted & counted again in case I got 3/4 done & found I was falling off the end of the aida cloth. As you can tell, I wasn't an expert at it - haha! Tracee xx

It is gorgeous Cardy, love those funky scissors too. I always started in the middle of a x-stitch, and a tapestry for that matter, don't know why, must have read it somewhere! xo

I admire your beautiful work. My mother is a cross stitcher and she's really created some beauties.

I'm looking forward to seeing the progress of your lovely cross stitch. It depends on the design as to where I start. If it is a fairly solid design, top left, but if a bit whispy, if you know what I mean, in the centre.

I usually start at the center or the top left corner... I feel more organized that way.

It's been awhile, but I usually started in the middle, unless the pattern called for starting elsewhere. I really should did out some cross stitch or needlepoint....

Looking fabulous, love your progress! I always start in the middle, then work up to the top as quickly as I can and back down again. I think it is for peace of mind that I have it centred and also have enough fabric.

I alway started right in the middle. I would fold my adda cloth in 4 then put a pin in the middle then on the pattern I would find the middle alway work for me.

Love how this is coming together - yes I have looked at the latest pics.
I mostly do pictures rather than samplers and start in the centre and work round in a clockwise direction.

I so want pretty scissors like yours.
