Philosophizing...

Hmmm...some blocks that we create really make us pause & contemplate...why do we do this?
For several months now I have been making a BOM with Material Obsession. Designed by Sue Ross, it has been an interesting lesson in colour & technique. Some blocks have been technically challenging...no quick whip it together & on to the next project...no sirree!
As we do, I was 2 blocks behind, so a long weekend ( full up with a cold...great!) was a perfect time to catch up....Friday night tracing templates...Saturday all systems go! But...so many set in corners...a bit of reverse stitching...a surprise & very welcome visit from some friends...a bit more reverse stitching & Sunday it was done...huge sigh of relief...I tamed the beast! Not altogether perfection, but I can live with it. I think patchwork can either make you patient or unleash your inner banshee...fortunately this time the patient unpicker was on duty...the other one is a bit scary!
Looking at it reminded me that I had done this block before...as a novice in the 1980's...a hand pieced sampler...and it was a beast then too!I like the fresh fun look of the new version...puts the "fashionable" mauve & blue (what was I thinking???) to shame...oh how our tastes change!
How are all you BOM participants going...are you on or off the wagon? Banshee or calm stitching goddess?

Catching up!

The Easter break was very handy! I was able to spend some time catching up with my BOM from Material Obsession. I love it...though it has proved challenging at times. The fabrics are great...I love the traditional blocks done in modern fresh fabrics.I don't think the photos do justice to how beautiful the colours really are. Just fun really!
Prickly Pear...
Queen of the May (just need to applique it to the background)...
Arrowhead.
Looking forward to the next one!

Cardy needs her groove back!

As you know, the last few weeks have been pretty turbulent at my place. I have been struggling to get life back on track & some order restored....as I like order! Yesterday I saw a glimmer of my usual self returning & I feel I will see more as each day passes. Working 10hr days has given me little energy at night & I don't like it! So DD & I walked to town to get the newspapers yesterday, I rearranged furniture & even cleaned out a drawer...mmmm...I think my mojo is coming back!
The only thing that I have kept working on is my MO medallion. I added vintage ricrac for stems & yoyos for flowers....what do you think?
Each night I have been serenaded by a big noisy bunch...here is a partial group shot of my back deck...
they hang around the bug zapper! They are getting a bit friendly...trying to get in the kitchen window & one even came in the car with me to work! Not attractive!

MIA...but safely back now!

I have been MIA for a few days...we had a violent electrical storm on Wednesday evening & our modem (my voicebox) was a casualty. After many phone calls & much fuss the modem has been replaced & our connection re-established. Lots of rain, thunder & lightning...the rain is still appreciated, but I can do without the rest! I also noticed that since the makeover my stat counter had disappeared...it has been reinserted today (I feel so clever!) & I am back to normal at last.

I have been enjoying the latest block from the Sue Ross BOM from MO...having a bit of a play around with it too....fun! Not too much else going on sewing wise...too much time in paid employment & when I am home everyone else is here as they are all on holidays...nicer to share the time with them. We saw "Avatar" yesterday which I really enjoyed.
Hope all is well at your place!

Something has been happening!

A little sewing time has been happening today...yay!
DD has been home for the weekend which has been lovely...all being well she will be finished uni in a month or so & then be on the lookout for work...maybe even off our payroll!
Cars have been washed, lawns mowed & lots of chat...keeping things calm prior to the start of DS exams this week...breathe slowly...we will survive...we just need to be there for him.
DD finished her mug bag to go with the apron for her friend's 21st present...
it looks really lovely.

I spent some time working on the Sue Ross BOM from MO...
I am pleased with it so far.

And there are so many things that can't be seen...

so here is a bit of a tease...my selvedge container...it is very full, so it may give some glimpses of what may be under construction at my place!

A grand day out!

What a lovely day I had today with Kristen, Susan, Kim, Meredith, Jo & Leanne.
We went to Susan's fabulous stitching shed, shared ideas, talked, stitched, ate & laughed.
Here is the view from Susan's...

and inside too.
But one of the highlights of the day would have to be when Jo pulled out her block from Material Obsessions BOM with Sue Ross! OMG...here, not 5 minutes from my home is another blogger & MO BOM'er!!!!!!!!! Unbelievable....here is her version of Block 1...

I caught up with presents...can't show it all now!
